About Kim Cheel
Kim Cheel was born with the love of the theatre.  Chasing that dream to Alberta, she graduated college in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Drama.  In 2010, she returned to the stage as Mary in Airdrie Little Theatre's production of Prescription for Murder.  In 2011, she became president of the new Nose Creek Players, Airdrie's community theatre company.  With NCP, she built a company that not only performed on the stage, but performed in the community, be it theatre, or volunteerism. She believes strongly in bridging the gap between the arts and community.  In 2013, she won the Foothills Region Outstanding New Play for Empty Spaces, a one act that premiered at the Nose Creek Players Original One Act Play Festival. In 2014, her first full-length play, The Courtship of Sarah Chandler debuted through Nose Creek Players, to critical acclaim.  In 2015, she introduced her first self-produced show, STRENGTH, in the form of a staged reading to further develop the script for professional performance. STRENGTH was renamed to Reign of Power and was performed in September of 2016 as part of a fundraiser for Airdrie and District Victim Services (ADVAS). In 2017, Kim was awarded Honourable Mention, Best New Script of an Albertan Playwright for her one-act, Carolien and Wessex. In 2018, she took Carolien and Wessex to the Calgary Fringe. Following that experience, she wrote her one-woman show, Cleaning for the Prime Minister + Other Delusions. Its Festival debut (High River) brought extremely positive feedback, as well as the award for Best Actress. Kim intends to tour this show, so visit the page for all the details!
In 2011, she became the instructor for the City of Airdrie Performing Arts Class for Kids at the Bert Church Theatre.  What started as a single evening of classes has evolved to 3 evenings a week, including an invitation-only advanced class as well as 4 weeks of summer camp.  Through these classes, children aged 7-16 learn theatre skills, self-confidence, and group dynamics.  PACK has been renamed Made for the Stage and encourages a holistic view of the theatre.
In 2015, Kim began teaching with Torchlight Theatre, as well as directing their SPARK performances: The Snow Queen (2015), The Worst Play in the World (2016),  Robin Hood (2017), Not On This Night (2017), and Secret Garden (2018).
In 2015, Kim also began releasing books, starting with Always Together, a children's book illustrated by local artist Elizabeth M. Hall, then followed by Stories of a City, an Anthology, and Gwen and Arthur, the first book of a young adult trilogy: Queen of Camelot.
An advocate, not only for the arts, but for community, Kim volunteers with several community groups, including the Airdrie Food Bank, Airdrie Film Society, and Creative Airdrie Society. In 2018, she was awarded the Champion of the Arts award at the Airdrie Mayor's Night of the Arts
